What is the Minecraft Olympics?
The Minecraft Olympics or MCO is a series of mini games where the players compete against each other in a variety of challenges, more on these a little later on.
There are currently 38 games to pick from and each brings it’s own challenge from 2 minute luck based games to some real skill challenges.
How to get started?
When the players join the MCO they are taken to a faraway entrance but a short walk and button press takes them to the game lobby. This area is where all non-game activities happen. To join the games you select a free colour and claim it as your own by pressing that button. You are now signed in and will see a coloured block in your inventory as a reminder. You can also join as a spectator and follow the action.
How to play?
In the lobby there is a game area, the players, however they like, perhaps working through the games in order or taking turns to select a game, press a button to start that game. An explanation is given on screen but you might not have enough time before the game starts so please consult the books you are given when you join. Your hosts can help guide you through if this is your first time.
Who wins?
The winner is the player with the most points at the end of their session. Most games score 7, 5 and 3 points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with everyone else taking a point. There are some games that differ such as the Climbing wall that requires completion to score.
At the end the first four places are recognised with a podium spot.
What do I need?
It depends, if you want to play IRL at MCO HQ then not much - just some optional snacks as we can provide some equipment. But broadly speaking an online PC or Mac, a Java 1.28.1 installation or Minecraft and if online a discord account.
Connection details are provided elsewhere.
What is the Shop?
The shop gives players some in-game upgrades, this give the player an advantage but comes at the cost of giving up game points.
When you purchase an upgrade it doesn’t go into your inventory but is applied at all games that need that equipment. For example if you buy a magic sword, any game that requires a sword, you will be give a magic sword rather than a regular sword.
